Chapel Hill Transit Apprenticeship Program
Project type
Workforce Development Program with Video Outreach
Date
2022–2023
Location
Chapel Hill
I spearheaded the development and promotion of the Chapel Hill Transit Maintenance Apprenticeship Program, a workforce initiative designed to provide high school and college-age participants with hands-on training, certifications, and credentials in transit automotive maintenance. This program addresses a critical need for succession planning within the transit department as many seasoned professionals approach retirement, ensuring valuable knowledge is transferred to the next generation of bus technicians.
Key components of the program included:
Strategic Program Development: Collaborated with NC Apprenticeship and local stakeholders to create a registered apprenticeship program tailored to both student needs and departmental goals.
Outreach & Engagement: Organized an interactive presentation at Chapel Hill High School, featuring hands-on demonstrations with electric vehicles and a behind-the-scenes video that showcased the day-to-day operations of the transit maintenance team.
